Happy Birthday. The new Enter Technikwelt in Derendingen is more than a museum.
Ideally located between Bern and Zurich, the Enter Technikwelt Solothurn has attracted almost 40,000 visitors since its opening in early December 2023 and has quickly earned the title of Switzerland's largest interactive analog and digital technology museum.
This year, many unique events took place, from vehicle meet-ups, exciting expert lectures, company events to a wedding. The oldest LAN party in Switzerland, called NetGame Convention, attracted 250 gamers in December 2023 – gaming, battling, and celebrating took place over three days.
Action heroines, Marty McFly, and even Batman – they were all present at the Nerdy Flea Market and Cosplay Meet-up in March 2024. With over 70 vendor tables and more than 180 cosplayers, the event offered plenty of action.
Particularly impressive was Prof. Dr. Horst Zuse, son of computer pioneer Konrad Zuse, who captivated his audience with breathtaking insights into the history of the computer's creation. He was a vivid example of how the Enter Technikwelt brings the history of technology to life and conveys knowledge firsthand. Equally impressive was the vernissage by Marianne Artho, the first female programmer in Switzerland, who presented her book and participated in the interactive tour in collaboration with FHNW.
The film car meet-up was also a highlight. Many automotive icons, made famous by film and television, could be admired up close. Car enthusiasts and film fans came together to admire the legendary vehicles. Every weekend, a vehicle meet-up takes place at the Enter Technikwelt, offering something for everyone, from cult vehicles to impressive racing cars.
The Enter Technikwelt is much more than a classic museum. It is lively, evokes emotions, and connects the history of technology with pop culture. In the Enter Technikwelt, there is an atmosphere of wonder, where the joy of technology, from the past to the future, is palpable for all generations. In addition to the many great events, the Enter Technikwelt has also established itself as an event location and won the Swiss Location Award with an "Excellent" rating just half a year after opening. This speaks for both the locations and the Enter Restaurant.
Since November 2024, the Enter Technikwelt has been under new management. Fabian Knuchel, formerly Technical Director, is the new head of the Enter Technikwelt. He succeeds Violetta Vitacca, who was the museum director until the move and was significantly involved in the new building project. Violetta Vitacca will continue to be the president of the Friends of Enter, accompanying the Enter Technikwelt and supporting various fundraising projects.
Just in time for the one-year anniversary, the third part of the documentary film trilogy about the new Enter Technikwelt Solothurn was released on November 30, 2024, which can be accessed via the following QR code or found directly on the Enter Technikwelt Solothurn YouTube channel.
