The concept and designs for the Apple I, one of the first personal computers, were created under the leadership of Steve Wozniak in Los Altos in Silicon Valley. The assembled components of the device, assembled with the help of Steve Jobs, were available from July 1976 at the computer chain Byte Shop (approx. 200 units sold).
Priced at $666, it was the first device affordable for households and was equipped with all the necessary connections to operate it in a modern way using a keyboard and monitor (instead of the previously common toggle switches and lights of the lower-priced computers at that time). For this reason, the Apple I is also referred to as the world's first personal computer.
